About SpliceIt!
What is the goal of SpliceIt! ?
SpliceIt!'s main goal is to provide a CMS aimed at developers. That means it will ship with a very minimalistic set of plugins that will only provide the most elemental functions a CMS should have. In fact this might not even include an actual Content-Managment-Plugin.
Never the less, the SpliceIt!-team time will provide such, and more advanced plugins like:
- Blogging
- Gallery
- Tagging
etc. on the offical website Todo. The main difference between those plugins and plugins/modules in other CMS systems such as Drupal is that the developer is responsible for connecting them. This will reduce the bloat most other CMS systems are suffering from, but take the advantage of a highly modularized system.
So to putting it in other words: We all dreamed & tried about creating our own (all-in-one) CMS before, but often failed / not finished them for reasons like: lag of time/motivation, lag of structure/conception, etc. If SpliceIt! suceeds everyone will be able to build their very own and individual CMS system within very few hours.
We might also publish pre-configured SpliceIt! systems at some point that can directly be given to an end user.
When will it be done?
SpliceIt! can be divided in 3 parts. The SpliceIt!-core that makes up the system, the SpliceIt! Core Plugins (like Users, Rights, etc.) and the additional Plugins (like Blogging, Gallery, etc.). Right now we are still working on the SpliceIt!-core, but we hope to finish it in the next 1 or 2 weeks (at least the parts we've planned so far). The Core Plugins will take a little longer, but we hope to be able to build on other Cakeforge projects code for finishing them within the next 2 month. By this time we hope that volunteers will start and develop their own plugins so the first additional plugins can be offered ; ).
What does this really mean? It means it will be done when it's done. The guesses above are estimates, but they could turn out to be completly wrong. So stay tuned, or offer your help for speeding things up.
